Spring Break '12 Road Trip: Day 1: PDX-> Ashland

We kicked off our Spring break with a first-ever road trip as a family.  We are going to spend the week in San Francisco and Sacramento/Davis.

The drive so far has gone well.  We made it to Ashland on this leg.  We decided to break up the driving over two days to make the trip a little more relaxed.

We stopped in Crestwell (outside of Eugene) for dinner.  We had some awesome diner food at a cute little local places call The Rocket Inn.    Neat place, complete with lots of locals and fun wait-staff.   I would recommend for a quick bite.

The '12 Explorer is handling well, very comfortable, and is fun to drive as it eats the miles.   I have it pretty tricked-out for the trip, including a wireless hotspot, power inverter and multistrip for charging all the personal electronic devices, and my iPhone w/ Waze on the dash to give me the skinny on the roads ahead.

We are staying over at the Ashland Springs Hotel.  It is a beautiful historic hotel in the middle of Ashland, which is one of  my favorite Oregon towns. I'm looking forward to waking up rested and enjoying a stroll around town before hitting the road again.
